The Blackfoot Shirts Project

In 1841, Edward Hopkins of the Hudson’s Bay Company collected five men’s shirts, decorated with porcupine quillwork, scalplocks and painted war images. They came from Blackfoot communities in Canada and the United States (Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai, in Alberta, and the Blackfeet in Montana).  In 1893 the Hopkins family transferred the shirts to the Pitt Rivers Museum (PRM).
