World War 1 documentary set to give new insight into untold stories
A new 30-minute documentary is set to provide new insight and reveal untold stories of the First World War.
Presented by historian Dan Snow and produced by History Hit, Untold Stories of World War 1 looks at some of the pioneering research projects carried out by the five AHRC-funded WW1 Engagement Centres over the past four years.
Involving 26 universities and partner organisations - including the Heritage Lottery Fund & Imperial War Museum - the centres have helped hundreds of community groups to research public histories of the First World War as part of the centenary commemorations.
The projects set to feature are:
- Research into the plays that were produced during the conflict
- A look at the work of German photographer, Käthe Buchler, where she documented life in her hometown during the war
- The use of large stately homes as hospitals
- Excavation of Ballykinler military base
The full documentary will be available to watch online from Thursday, 1 November 2018.Return to news list
