Audit Committee Appointments 2014

Date: 29/08/2014

The AHRC is looking for a qualified accountant, with experience in the finance and/or governance sector(s), to fill a vacancy arising on its Audit Committee in September 2014.

Audit Committee and the Role of Members

The Audit Committee is a mandatory part of the Council structure with responsibility for providing assurance to Council and the Chief Executive as Accounting Officer, on the adequacy and effectiveness of the AHRC's framework of governance, risk management and controls. The role of the members is to review activities and issues around finance, control frameworks, risk, governance, efficiencies and effectiveness and provide advice and recommendations. Members also review the outputs of internal and external audit. The Committee issues a quarterly report to Council, providing assurances and highlighting areas of concern.

There are five members of the Audit Committee. The Committee is chaired by a suitably qualified member of Council and one other member of Council also sits on the Committee. Two places are taken up by members with experience of finance, accounting and governance and one place is taken up by a member of the arts and humanities academic community, who has direct experience of the work of the AHRC.

Term of Appointment

Members will be appointed for an initial term of three years commencing on 1 November 2014, after which they may be considered for reappointment for an additional term.

Meetings

Meetings normally take place four times per year at the AHRC offices in Swindon. Members will not receive an honorarium or a meeting attendance fee but all reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed.

Applications and Interviews

Candidates should complete an Expression of Interest Form (ODT 7KB) (ODT, 6KB), outlining (in no longer than 500 words) how they meet the criteria in the role and person specification (ODT 12KB) (ODT, 12KB) and why they are suitable for the position. They should also submit a two page CV. The deadline for applications is Monday 22 September, at 4pm. Interviews will take place in Swindon on Monday 20 October 2014.

If you have any questions about the role, please contact Miss Cecilia Sparke, Audit Committee Secretary, on email: c.sparke@ahrc.ac.uk or tel: 01793 41 6013.
