Overhead and Underfoot: Legacies of World War II around Lough Neagh

Lough Neagh Partnership through its Heritage Lottery funded Landscape Programme will be hosting  a two-day Conference on the cultural legacy of  the Second World War on the Lough Neagh area.

Day 1 will deliver a series of presentations and informative discussion on the stories associated with those both from the Lough area and the service personnel based there. Covering a diverse range of topics ranging from military aviation to the stories of evacuees, the conference has something for everyone:

  • Setting the scene of WWII in the Lough Neagh Area
  • The story of military aviation in NI during WWII
  • The power of the WWII story
  • World War II legacy potential
  • Hauntology and mapping the place
  • The potential of  WWII community projects
  • The built heritage
  • Dark Histories around the Lough
  • PRONI – A resource
  • Collecting and recording
  • Evacuees around the lough
  • Writing the stories

Day 2 will involve a guided bus tour around Second World War heritage sites and a visit to the Ulster Aviation Society
