Event date Event time Event location
02/02/2018 - 05/05/2018 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Manchester Metropolitan University, then in Hatfield (see opening dates below)

This exhibition focuses on the amateur photographer Käthe Buchler, whose work forms one of the featured collections of the German Photographic Museum in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony. Buchler photographed the German home front during the First World War. Her black & white images feature members of her family, working children, injured soldiers returning to Braunschweig, and a series called ‘women in male-dominated professions’. This is the first time that her work has been displayed outside Germany, and details are also available via Storify.

See a sample of images from the exhibit which are available on our "Gallery for Käthe Buchler's Photographs of Germany in the Great War" page.

There is also a series of accompanying events including a symposium on women, WW1 and photography. Please visit the website, www.voicesofwarandpeace.org or contact Nicola Gauld, Voices Coordinator, for more information or queries: n.gauld@bham.ac.uk or telephone 0121 464 3209.
