25/11/2017 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm Aston Webb Great Hall University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham

Photographic artist and educator, Jo Gane, leads this workshop exploring analogue photography techniques. Attendees will use recycled materials to construct a working analogue pinhole camera which can be used to photograph the Aston Webb Building and objects from the Research and Cultural Collections, exploring links to the history of the University during the First World War. Analogue negative images will be made on silver gelatin paper that will be processed during the workshop using a small portable darkroom, then ‘printed’ using your own smartphone technology.

During the workshop participants will have the opportunity to visit Beyond the Battlefields: Käthe Buchler’s Photographs of Germany in the Great War. This exhibition, hosted by Voices of War and Peace and Research and Cultural Collections, focuses on the German home front and the role of the University of Birmingham during the First World War. If you would like to ‘print’ your photographs, please bring a smartphone or tablet.

We will meet in the Aston Webb Reception. The workshop will start at 12:30, please arrive 5 minutes before to ensure that it can start promptly.
