Apply for IRO status

Independent Research Organisations (IROs) may be eligible to receive funding providing they have an existing in-house capacity to carry out research and can demonstrate and Independent capability to undertake and lead research programmes.

It can take on average 12 months for an applying organisation to achieve IRO status. The stages of the application process are outlined in the application process flowchart. (PDF, 189KB)

The report 'A Decade of Success' (PDF, 6.3MB) captures the scope and range of AHRC funded research in the last ten years and looks to the future of the research funding in IROs and their important role in nurturing the next generation of talent and maximising the potential of digital technology for visitor experiences in museums and galleries.
